About Juan Sebastián

I am an economist studying the institutional foundations of economic development in Latin America.

 
I am a visiting scholar at the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics and a visiting assistant professor in public policy at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, USA in 2023 - 2024. 
 
I am an assistant professor in economics and an affiliate of the Center for Development Studies at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia (on leave).
 
My research examines a range of historical and contemporary issues, including the state, conflict, prosociality, and how they affect economy development and policy, such as agrarian reform or industrial policy. 
 
I received my PhD. in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University in 2019.
