About Juan Sebastián

I am an economist studying the political economy of development in Latin America.

 
I am an assistant professor in economics and an affiliate of the Center for Development Studies at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
 
I was a visiting scholar at the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics and a visiting assistant professor in public policy at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, USA in 2023 - 2024. 
 
My research examines how state and kinship institutions shape long-run economic development and contemporary public policy.
 
I received my Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University in 2019.
