I am a Faculty Lecturer at McGill University in the Mathematics and Statistics Department, where I teach courses and work on supporting math students and the broader math community in various ways!
__________
I take seriously McGill University's Mission Statement and Principles, especially with regards to "providing service to society" and embracing "the principles of academic freedom, integrity, responsibility, equity, and inclusiveness." Mathematics is a beautiful subject in its own right, but it is also extremely useful to so many aspects of our lives. This gives mathematicians, and others using math, great responsibility for the ethical use of mathematics, and for the equitable teaching of mathematics. To learn more on the topic, check out this page from the Just Mathematics Collective (it is US-centric but I think you still find it helpful).
__________
I fully support efforts to increase diversity in mathematics.
I am a signatory to the Commitment to gender equity at scholarly conferences. My participation in conferences is contingent on the organizers making it an explicit priority to select female and male speakers in an unbiased manner (see here for more explanations). I have not found such a commitment for other diversity issues, such as race and ethnicity, but would gladly sign one.
I have added my name to the list of Allies of Spectra, the association for LGBTQ+ mathematicians and their allies. Feel free to contact me about the climate at this university and department, and I will do my best to find answers for you.
__________
From 2015 to 2019, I was a Preceptor and the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Mathematics Department at Harvard University. This means I had teaching and course coordinating duties, and also worked on diversity, inclusion and belonging for the math majors and other math students.
During the 2014-2015 academic year, I was a Lecturer and Assistant to the Director of Undergraduate Studies at Harvard University.
And before that, so from 2006 to 2009, I was doing my Bachelors of Science in Honours Applied Mathematics at McGill University. What a pleasure it is to be back "home" ! I grew up in Québec city (Sainte-Foy). You can get me started on the "rivalry" between Québec and Montréal, at your own risk!
