Our Facilities

About Our BSL-2 Lab

 

The AT Lab maintains several BSL-2 labs that are equipped with the latest tools and equipment. The standard of our research is supported by the machinery in our BSL-2 facilities that function to aid our performance of experimental procedures rapidly and accurately.

Equipment

 

Class II Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinet

 

Our biosafety cabinets ensures the safety of both the users and the environment. Our ESCO AirstreamR biological safety cabinet provides ample space to accommodate users to work in tandem. This provides functionality during the processing of large numbers of biological samples.

 

Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader

 

The latest cell imaging system that we use, Cytation 7, includes both upright and inverted microscopy. This affords us the function of sophisticated imaging that we use for a variety of our assays including:  live-imaging, fluorescent microneutralization, plaque assays, 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50), host-receptor expression, and enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISpot) assays.

 

Microplate Washer

 

Our microplate washer (BIOTEK 50 TS), offers automated washing. It is mainly used for ELISA and enables us to perform the assay using multiple plates at a time. This allows the rapid processing of large quantities of samples in a single day.


 

Absorbance Microplate Reader

 

Our microplate reader ( TECAN SUNRISETM) works in parallel with our microplate washer for our colorimetric ELISA, and allows us to read multiple plates at a time. It is powered by the Magellan software which enables easier data analysis and export.

 

Thermal Cycler

 

Our compact BIO-RAD T100 thermal cycler contains several convenient features such as: easy programming due to the intuitive touch screen feature and quick optimization of reactions in a single PCR run.

 

 

Real-Time PCR Cycler

 

Our Rotor-Gene Q (Qiagen) instrument for Real-Time PCR is low maintenance and convenient to use. It is also supported by a user-friendly software that enables easy data analysis.

 

Trans-Blot Turbo Transfer System

Our Trans-Blot Turbo Transfer System, from BIO-RAD, allows us to blot transfer proteins more rapidly compared to the traditional protein blotting method.  Its high-throughput and flexible design can customize transfer conditions and handle more gels in a single run.
