Science Policy in Graduate School

While in graduate school at MIT I started getting interested in the field of science policy, especially related to education issues. See below for the various ways I got involved!

__________

On May 19, 2014 was held an xTalk at MIT co-sponsored by MIT's Science Policy Initiative. I organized the meeting of a few graduate students interested in education reform with the speaker, Professor Carl Wieman. Nobel laureate in physics, Wieman has performed extensive education research. He spoke to us about teaching and learning expertise in science and engineering.

On January 31, 2014 I organized, with Dillon Gardner for MIT's Science Policy Initiative, a panel on Current and Future Possibilities in Online Learning held during their Bootcamp. I also participated in the Bootcamp, a "4-day short course [...] designed to introduce graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to the 'nuts and bolts' of science policy making."

In October 2013 I participated in the Executive Agency Visit Days of MIT's Science Policy Initiative. The purpose of this three day workshop in Washington DC is to "learn how scientists and policymakers tackle tech policy challenges and to explore career paths for scientists in government."

Science Outside the Lab is a 2-week science policy program in Washington DC, presented by Arizona State University's Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes (CSPO). I went there in the summer of 2013, while a graduate student at MIT.
